Palmers Planet Westgate opened on December 13, and is a key tenant of the new $1 billion Westgate shopping precinct. Run by franchisee owners Mark and Melissa McLean, Palmers Planet Westgate boasts the largest retail area of any garden centre in New Zealand. The store features 2000 square metres of garden centre (most of it under cover) and a further 2000 square metres of retail space. There is also a 150-seat Cafe Botannix licensed café and parking for more than 200 vehicles right at the front door. Media Article: Auckland's $10 billion do-up

Media Source: NZ Herald Auckland is being rebuilt before our eyes, as projects worth at least $10 billion-plus rise across the city. In one of its biggest transformations, a series of infrastructure, education, roading, commercial, retail, housing and prison projects are rising or planned. Graham Darlow, chief executive of Fletcher Construction which is working on many of the projects, says what we're seeing now is simply catch-up after the global financial crisis. But economic growth, Auckland's fast expansion, a critical shortage of residential accommodation, desperate need for big new housing estates, the development of entire new town centres to meet demands, expansion of the workforce, rising population, requirements for better university and school buildings, consumer demand for bigger and better supermarkets, and extending...

Media Article: 'Desperate Shortage' of retail space, says Auckland councillor

Media Source: NZ Herald Auckland is suffering a desperate shortage of land for business expansion and retailing with a "critical short supply" of large format shopping space, says one Auckland councillor. Cameron Brewer told the Property Council's retail conference how the city's retail space was forecast to expand from 3.9 million square metres to 5.7 million sq m by 2041 to keep pace with population growth, as an extra 700,000 people would have arrived by then. "There's insatiable demand so some of us at the council are concerned and critical of business land supply in Auckland," he said, citing Colliers International and the Property Council as also speaking out about the problem. As an illustration of the sector's growth, Brewer said retail employment growth was set to increase by 26 per cent in the...
